Comic page in black and white with grey textures. Jigen has Zenigata in his gun's viewfinder and says "Hey I got that dopey inspector in my sights." Lupin yells "NO! YOU CAN'T!" and the viewfinder blurs and moves away from Zenigata's head. Jigen asks "Lupin! What're you--?! What's the problem, he--" We see Lupin holding Jigen's sniper rifle down as the two sit on a roof together. Lupin responds "He's important to-- he's important to the plan!" The two go silent and Jigen pulls his large gun close to his chest.

Idea I had a while back before I had my surgery! Lupin being gay and not really knowing it is so my jam. I downloaded some new brushes for CSP and I’ve been enjoying them so much I wanted to try them on a comic, so it’s bit experimental so I hope it looks good!

Comic page in grey scale, of Lupin the Third. Zenigata is in the foreground walking away from Lupin and he looks absolutely horrified. Lupin did a drug?! Lupin peeks out in the background from behind Zenigata and asks "Pops! Where're you goin'?"

Then there’s Zenigata, who’s a Japanese cop and would definitely be conflicted about finding this out. (Japan has a history of being extra hard on drugs to the point where it’s worse than pedophilia)

Boys from inside the cottage

Drew this over the summer while at the cottage based on something one of the cats did while I was around. This was a good practice page for screentones, I’m slowly figuring out how those work in CSP. If y’all have any tips & tricks for CSP let me know I’d love to try them out and get a better feeling for the program.

Comic page in red line art with blue shading and tones. Title: Steak and Wine by Jey Pawlik. Jigen is quietly cooking steaks in a pan. He's startled by Fujiko yelling. Fujiko: LUPIIIN! Lupin: But Fujiko-- Jigen pokes his head out of the kitchen to see the two arguing over a bottle of wine. Fujiko: Do you know how expensive this wine is? Lupin: Of course! I'm the one who stole it for you after all. Fujiko: LUPIN!

This was a comic I did for the Lupin zine “Gunpowder and Perfume”. This was one of the first comics I actually tried really hard to write properly by myself.
I’m not really a writer. I’ve been drawing comics with Michelle for over six years and that works super well for me!
I know I did Gender Slices myself but I don’t really count that as ‘writing’. It was messy and drawn more on the fly. Most of the time I wouldn’t even thumbnail it.
So this comic that I did last year was my first proper attempt at writing something myself.
This was also before my style changed and before I really got a good handle on these characters, but I’m really proud of it regardless!
I do have my bigger Lupin comic that I’ve been working on that I’ve written and I’m thumbnailing by myself so I hope y’all are excited for that one ’cause I think my writing has really improved lately.
Sometimes all it takes is a little practice!

Okay comic time! This one was inspired by my good friend Allison O’Toole!

Also thanks for sticking with me while I took a break from posting comics for a bit, that really helped me get a small one-shot buffer going and I’m real excited to share some silly little comics with y’all!

Basically what’s going to happen for a while is on Tuesdays I’ll be posting one-shot mini comics; some Lupin and some Dead City. Just whatever comes to mind for a while to practice on until we move on to a new webcomic.

Hope you stick with us because we got some fun ideas in the works!

The End

Gender Slices has made it to 200 pages!

I never thought I’d do this. I didn’t think this little comic about scenes from my life would become anything, but it did! It got bigger than I thought, bigger than I could handle at times.

Thank you for sticking with me this long and reading about my life and experiences with gender, being trans/nonbinary, changing pronouns, all of it. It’s been such a great experience for me. I officially finished the art for Gender Slices in March 2019, so about a year ago now. I needed it all done by TCAF 2019 so I could sell the big Gender Slices book. I worked so hard to get all 200 pages done. I worked Monday-Friday for about three months, drawing these pages in my sketchbooks to have the book done in time. I’ve chosen to end it here.

I picked page 200 because it would be a nice clean end. It’s bittersweet and I wish I could keep it going forever, but it had to end. It just became bigger than I thought, and while I’ve read every single comment – it just got to be a bit too much after a while. I got so many great comments, stories, congratulations, but also a lot of hate and anger towards my comics too. It wore me down for a while. So I decided it was time to say goodbye.

I’m so excited to work on new and better projects, and I hope I can come back to autobio stuff; whether it be as a zine, or a large format book. I hope y’all will stick by me and see what’s coming up next! I think you’ll like it!

Also join me on April 22, 2020 at 6pm EST/3pm PST on twitch.tv/jeypawlik for a special Gender Slices livestream! Check out the news section here on Topaz, or on my twitter for updates on that. Hope to see you there!

So thank you so much, every one of you! You’re all valid and good luck on your own gender adventure ❤
Your friend,
Jey

I’ve come a long way

I’ve come a long way published on 2 Comments on I’ve come a long way

Since my coming out back on tumblr in 2015, I’ve done so much involving my gender and experiences. I never imagined Gender Slices would become anything bigger than a tumblr comic that 5-10 people would read. But it did. It became so much more. I’ve met so many cool people through this comic. I published it as a book. I sold it at TCAF. People tell me how much I’ve helped them, how much they’ve related to what I’ve written. And that means the world to me. I hope I can continue to help people with my comics. I hope you all follow me onto my next big thing, because next week on Gender Slices is a big announcement!
