Gotta say, go to a barber. If you say “give me a buzz cut” pretty much all of them then go “cool”
I’m indifferent to my gender, but I am interested in comfort, which has recently manifested as hating the long hair I’d been keeping since childhood. First I got it cut down to shoulder length. The hairdresser was bemoaning how his wife would have tried to talk me out of it.
Still too long. Went to one barber, who asked how long I wanted it, just asked “are you sure?” then buzzed it to a #4. Perfect.
Yas. My first time I did this, I somehow still ended up looking like a girl with short hair. It’s stupid, but somehow I look less effeminite when my hair is long. From the front, anyway. Which I discovered after buying my own clippers and cutting my own hair for some years. Maybe it was just always the wrong cut?
Oh my gosh this happened to me the last time I got a haircut, but I was too scared to ask for them to make it as short as I wanted
My experiences are very similar
“I need it short. Really short”
“Like a MAN????”
….

“Yes”
“i want it short”
> gives me that Suburban Mom cut
“no, shorter”
> a pixie cut
“i want an undercut!” *fumbles with explaining while pulling up mens undercut pictures*
“you mean you want me to use the clippers?”
“yes!”
ive learned explaining how long you want the top and the shape works, then you bring out the magic word. clippers. i think it’s like. a 2? for the clippers? the number you should say? maybe smaller. still working on that one.
