hee, for some reason I was imagining the toy as much more of an iguana than a dino. Still 100% adorable

I continue to be baffled by people saying you “can’t like something” because it’s “wrong” for you as an “insert reason here” – I love cartoons as an adult because they have an expressive beauty and the exaggerated style means I can understand the nuances of emotion far better, since I struggle on real faces. I enjoy MLP because the characters were well written and the stories well crafted. I liked Dragon Ball Z because it was silly. I adore pokemon because it’s all about facing challenges and finding ways to overcome them. I play magic the gathering, I hate dresses, I demand my pants have pockets…. but I’m still me, and my choices are mine.

These days you can always try and shut people up by showing them channels like “Snake Discovery” if they’re like “girls can’t like lizards” (or generally try and gender you) – the lead of that channel is a woman named Emily, and you get to watch her snuggling tegus and petting pythons. It is an amazing to watch her sit and pet her alligator “Rex” who turned out, when some medical testing was done, was female, but they’d kept the name Rex because they had no plans to breed the gator, so she’s just “Rex the alligator” with some cool backstory. (Rex now also has a live feed on twitch, because they can)
Emily is as feminine as any idiot who demands gender binary desires, while sitting there with an alligator.
She also had NB friends who helped her build the zoo where rex now lives. Her entire point is “reptiles are like SO AWESOME! Come see how cool the reptiles are!!!”
I also remember them talking about the design of the zoo and being upset that they couldn’t have non-gendered bathrooms because of some local ordinance. But I am also sure that if someone goes into a bathroom and someone else complained that they were going into the “wrong” one, the person who complained would be getting the lecture and not the person peeing.
They also made sure there are baby-tables in both bathrooms so that anyone can get rid of a nappy.
