Throwback to January 2017 when I finally found my name~

I was going by J. for a long time and when facebook and other websites wouldn’t let me have just an initial as a first name I switched to my first and middle initial “Je”. I went by Je for a year or so before I found THE ONE! And it was such a good feeling!

Call back to Gender Slices #99 to when I was just getting this started. It feels like so long ago now. Since drawing this everything I needed to change over has been changed, except my passport (which is another $180 so I’ve been putting that one off).

But I’ve done it! And if you’re changing your name over, make a list a head of time of all the accounts you’ll need to change once you have your new birth certificate!

Call for Guest Comics [May 2019]

Call for Guest Comics [May 2019] published on No Comments on Call for Guest Comics [May 2019]

Every May we go on a month long hiatus to catch up on our buffer and go to conventions. This year is going to be big because Topaz Comics is boothing at TCAF so there’s a lot we need to do before then!

Update: Gender Slices slots have been filled!

We’re looking for four artists for Dead City comics, and four artists for Gender Slices comics (illustrations are fine too) to post throughout the month of May. Comics will be posted every Tuesday here (topazcomics.com), Tapas, and Smackjeeves.

4 for Dead City
– must be about Mikael and JP
– 750px wide, height shouldn’t be smaller than 500px or larger than 4000px
– fully coloured, greyscale or just inked comics are fine
– Please keep it PG13
– no AUs please

4 for Gender Slices
– about your own experiences with gender
– 650px wide, 1005px tall
– fully coloured, greyscale, lineart or a clean sketched comic is fine
– should be about you (not me)
– trans/nonbinary/gender questioning artists only
– you must be comfortable putting your story out there

We ask that you only apply for one comic.

Guest comics will be due April 26th, but the sooner the better.

Please complete this form to sign up!

Thank you for reading!

I’ve made as many Gender Slices as there are 1st gen Pokemon. And I’m proud of that!

This one I’ve been wanting to do for a while. I had a comic in my deviantArt days. It wasn’t very good, it was a lot of inside jokes with my friends. But I was a boy in this comic and I liked that, and didn’t know why. I didn’t have the words to describe my feelings, so making strange little comics was the next best thing to helping my unknown dysphoria.

It’s embarrassing to look at now, but I’m glad I did it. I’m glad I explored ideas like this when I was younger.

An old coworker (who did know I started going by Jey) found me in my new city at my new job at random.

My new coworkers did not know my old name which was real nice, but being outted like that hurt. I felt like there wasn’t anything I could even do about it because it was over before I knew it.

My new coworkers never brought it up, but it still felt crummy.

Do what makes you happy, even if everyone else is going down another path.

If it’s not for you, don’t force it.

Don’t compare yourself to others.

You don’t have to go on hormones to be trans. You don’t have to have surgery to be trans. You don’t have to do what other people do to be trans. You know who you are despite everything that’s thrown at you!

I’m trans and no one can stop me.

We went to Medieval Times.

I know the wait staff is trained to talk like this, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be annoyed by it.

I think in the back of my mind I was really hoping they would say “sir” or “m’lord” but no such luck.
