It is a help, for me too.
I like making people comfortable. I like using the pronouns they want, just like I like remembering not to feed someone allergic to nuts a nutmeal shortbread. But it is hard to adjust sometimes, and sometimes I screw up and offer people the wrong sort of food. Or the wrong pronoun. I get there eventually. Part of it is because you realise how much of a distant acquaintance you were, to not have been aware before that you were using the wrong pronouns, or the wrong food, for some poor sod, you know? An introduction helps reset the brain.
Gotta say, as a cis person m’self, I do find it massively awkward to introduce myself with my pronouns, though. Even when it’s being done in a group. I bet it’s the same amount of awkward, if you’re trans. So the bravery and smoothness impresses me, you know?
