I do like the “placeholder” comment a friend once made about her daughter when she was born. She said “Well, the placeholder gender is female at this point.” Since then, the lass has gained the speech and the ability to inform her mother she made the right guess. But it was just considered to be that: A gender placeholder for a few years.
